Best Ever CBD Chocolate Muffins Recipe: Baking With CBD
Vicky here – content creator for ULU and avid home baker! If you’re like me, then you just love any excuse to eat sweet treats for breakfast. I also love CBD baking! So, what better way to indulge yourself in the morning than with gooey, moist CBD chocolate muffins?
So, this week I’ll be sharing with you my tried and tested recipe for chocolate muffins enriched with ULU 5% CBD oil.

CBD baking is a relatively new trend in the health and wellness industry. However, if you ask me, the two go hand in hand. In fact, I’ve been baking with CBD pretty much for as long as I’ve been taking cannabidiol.
CBD baking is a great way to take your daily dose and also have an excuse to give yourself a treat. Obviously, I’m not recommending that you eat chocolate muffins every day! However, this is just one way you can treat yourself!
Also, If you’re someone who really doesn’t enjoy the taste of CBD, then using food or drink to mask the subtle grassy flavour is a great way to overcome this hurdle. In this recipe, we’re using plenty of cocoa powder and sugar – so don’t worry, you won’t taste any of the cannabidiol oil here!

About my CBD chocolate muffin recipe
I’ve spent a long time perfecting this recipe! Muffins can be difficult to get right, and whilst there are lots of muffin recipes out there, some fall desperately short if you ask me! But don’t fear, you can use this CBD chocolate muffin recipe to create the perfect gooey muffins that are indulgent, yet beautifully light and airy. They also go perfectly with a nice warm cup of coffee first thing in the morning!
Also, speaking of coffee – you might notice that I’ve included a teaspoon of instant coffee in this recipe!
Don’t be alarmed – I promise you won’t taste it in the final result. Adding a small amount of coffee to any chocolate recipe is simply a sure-fire way to make the chocolate pop. The best bakers are quickly realising that coffee brings out the deep, rich flavours of the chocolate– enhancing the flavours and making the taste more luxurious.
ULU 5% CBD oil
For this recipe, I’ve chosen to add 18 drops of ULU 5% premium CBD oil. That makes 2 drops of cannabidiol per muffin – a total of 3.2mg per muffin.
If you’d like, you can experiment with the amount of CBD in this recipe. You could increase or decrease the number of CBD drops depending on your usual daily dose and the amount of CBD you’d like to take. Simply divide the total number of drops by 9 to work out how much cannabidiol each muffin will contain.
I’ve chosen ULU CBD oil for this recipe. Of course, I’m a content creator for ULU, but I’m also an avid CBD user and have been for a number of years. So, please don’t assume any bias when I say that ULU CBD truly is second to none.

CBD chocolate muffins recipe
(makes 9 cbd chocolate muffins)
190g plain flour
40g cocoa powder
1.5 tsp baking powder
2 medium eggs
60g caster sugar
30g brown sugar
130ml whole milk
50g chocolate chips
50ml olive oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp instant coffee
18 drops of ULU 5% CBD oil
CBD chocolate muffins method
Heat the oven to 180 180C/160C fan/gas 4.
Line a muffin tin with muffin cases – you can always use cupcake cases if you don’t have muffin ones. These will make slightly smaller muffins.
Sieve the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and coffee into a mixing bowl.
In a separate bowl of jug, whisk together the eggs, sugars, milk, oil, vanilla extract, and 18 drops of ULU 5% CBD oil until well mixed.
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently until combined.
Add the chocolate chips and mix gently until evenly spread.
Spoon the CBD chocolate muffin mixture into the muffin or cupcake cases until around 2/3 of the way full – this will leave some room for the muffins to rise.
Bake in the centre of the preheated oven for around 30 mins until a skewer inserted into the middle of the muffins comes out clean.
Remove and leave to cool before enjoying!

CBD Recipes: CBD Dalgona Coffee
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve no doubt seen the dalgona coffee trend that’s been sweeping across the internet during lockdown. And if you’re subscribed to the ULU newsletter, you’ll know our most recent newsletter was all about how to make CBD a part of your everyday life. And what better way to do that than to add a few drops to your morning coffee. So, this week we’re bringing you another CBD recipe: CBD dalgona coffee – the perfect CBD infused drink!
We’ve started this article with some information about dalgona coffee and CBD for those who aren’t so familiar with either. However, if you’re already an expert, feel free to skip straight to the recipe!
What is CBD dalgona coffee?
Dalgona coffee is a Korean coffee drink currently taking the internet by storm. It’s almost like an upside down cappuccino: with the coffee on the top and the milk on the bottom. However, in this drink, the coffee is the part that’s whipped into a delicious foam by combining equal parts instant coffee, sugar and water. This coffee foam is then placed on top of the milk – which you can enjoy hot or cold.
And CBD dalgona coffee is a new twist on the popular drink. All you’ll need to do is add a few drops of your chosen CBD oil into the recipe to make CBD dalgona coffee.
What CBD should I use?
For this CBD recipe, we’ll be adding 2 drops of ULU 10% CBD oil with GABA to make a CBD infused drink. This means that per serving, this recipe contains 6.4mg of CBD – a fairly potent dose!
This also happens to be a full-spectrum oil. We love full-spectrum oils here at ULU because they really are a superior product. ‘Full-spectrum’ means that during the distillation process, none of the parts of the hemp plant (apart from THC) are removed. So, in addition to our high-quality cannabidiol, you’ll also benefit from the other beneficial, natural chemical compounds found within the hemp plant.
However, you can really use any type or amount of CBD you choose. Simply add a few drops of whichever CBD oil you have to hand. You can also vary the dose by adding more or fewer drops of oil into the CBD recipe. (To work out how strong your CBD dose is, make sure to divide the total amount of CBD by the number of drops in the bottle. This will give you a more accurate idea of CBD-per-drop.)
How does dalgona coffee work?
If you’re wondering how dalgona coffee works – how it gets its beautiful creamy foam, then look no further.
Coffee guru James Hoffman compares dalgona coffee to the process of whipping meringue. In meringue, you have a foaming agent (eggs) and sugar to stabilise the foam. And this is what creates those beautiful stiff peaks.
In dalgona coffee, the coffee granules provide the foaming agent. This is because when you roast coffee, you get something called melanoidins – the foaming agents in espresso that allow the crema to occur on top. However, this alone won’t create creamy foam – crema on top of espresso coffees, for example, fade after a few minutes.
Here, we’re whisking incredibly viscous liquid. We’ve dissolved equal parts coffee and sugar into the same amount of water. We also have the sugar as a stabilising agent. And this creates smaller, more stable bubbles – creating thick foam which sticks around for much longer.
Just a few notes before we get to the CBD dalgona coffee recipe!
This recipe measures ingredients by tablespoons – however to get a more accurate result, you can weigh each ingredient. This recipe calls for equal parts instant coffee, sugar and water. So, you could weigh a tbsp of instant coffee, and then match this weight for the other ingredients.
Traditionally, dalgona coffee is made with granulated sugar. However, we found after making the traditional recipe that the foam was quite grainy. So, we’ve substituted granulated for icing sugar. This makes the coffee a bit sweeter, so you can always experiment with using less sugar if you don’t have a major sweet tooth.
Also, this drink is enjoyed best when the foam is stirred into the milk before drinking – after you’ve taken an Instagram-worthy picture of the foam on top of course!
Lastly, if you don’t have a tablespoon – don’t worry! You can either weigh the ingredients, or use 2 level dessert spoons.
CBD dalgona coffee recipe
Recipe serves 1 – simply double to make 2 cups of delicious CBD dalgona coffee, perfect for sharing!
1 tbsp instant coffee (approx 10g)
1 tbsp sugar (approx 10g)
1 tbsp very hot water (not boiling) (approx 10g)
2 drops ULU 10% Full Spectrum CBD Oil with GABA
Boil water in a kettle and immediately pour into a glass to slightly cool. You want the water to be very hot, but not quite boiling.
Once slightly cooled, at the hot water to a mixing jug with the instant coffee and sugar. Use an electric or hand mixer to whisk the mixture until it becomes foamy and stiff peaks appear. This takes about 3 minutes of whisking.
Squeeze 2-3 drops of your chosen CBD oil into the milk mixture and stir until combined.
If desired, heat milk in a saucepan or carefully in the microwave. (If you prefer cold coffee drinks, you can skip this step!)
Pour milk into a heatproof glass and carefully spoon the foamed coffee mixture so that it rests on top of the milk.
CBD dalgona coffee is best enjoyed when you stir the foam into the milk. But make sure to take an Instagram-worthy photo before you do this!!
If you’re looking for a way to take your CBD dalgona coffee to the next level, why not try one or more of our optional extra ideas!
- Add a tsp of vanilla extract to your milk and stir thoroughly for a slightly sweet tasting milk with a subtle hint of vanilla.
- Try adding 1 tsp of cocoa powder to the coffee, sugar and water before whipping to create a CBD dalgona mocha.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg (or 2 pinches of pre-mixed pumpkin spice) to your whipped coffee mixture to add a festive twist.
- If this recipe is too sweet for you, reduce the amount of sugar whisked into the foam – you’ll need a little to help the foam whip into stiff peaks, however you can experiment with reducing the overall amount of sugar for a more savoury taste.
- Try adding the whipped foam to a cup of coffee rather than milk – but don’t forget to add a few drops of CBD to the warm coffee first!

Gooey CBD Brownies: Baking With CBD
Hi, I’m Vicky. I take care of content for ULU – and in my spare time I’m an avid baker. I’ve been baking for over 10 years, and I used to run a small baking business out of my kitchen. (I even made my own wedding cake!)
One of my absolute favourite things to bake are brownies. I love a warm, gooey chocolate brownie with fresh raspberries, or a chilled one to grab on the go. And when it comes to brownies, I’m really picky! I don’t like eating brownies where the batter is pretty much raw in the middle, and I don’t like them when they’re too cakey! A good brownie should be the perfect mix between the two. And this recipe definitely fits that profile.
Over the last 10 years, I’ve been perfecting my brownie recipe. I’ve been tweaking and adding to it every so often. And I’ve been testing any recipe tweaks on anyone I can force-feed (although I’ve never had anybody who wasn’t excited to eat more of my brownies.)
I’ve also been experimenting with CBD recipes more recently. I take CBD oil every day to help with anxiety and sleep – and I’ve noticed some amazing benefits. So, I like to bake and cook with CBD as a novel way to supplement by daily CBD oil drops. And these brownies are a great way to get into cooking and baking with CBD in general.
Now, I believe this brownie recipe is perfect. I’ve had lots of people tell me that these brownies are the best they’ve ever tried! No exaggeration. I am constantly bombarded with requests to make these brownies at any event, gathering or birthday.
So, here is my famous CBD brownies recipe (with some FAQs included at the end of the recipe)
Gooey CBD Brownies Recipe
This recipe uses a 26cm by 20cm baking tray and makes around 15 square brownies.
- 300g dark chocolate
- 150g butter (plus a little extra for greasing the tray)
- 350g brown sugar
- 4 eggs
- 120g plain flour
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 30 drops of ULU 10% concentration CBD oil
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (yes – really! Please see FAQs below)
- Tin foil
CBD Brownies Method
Combine 300g dark chocolate and 150g butter and gently melt. You can do this by heating a saucepan full of boiling water, and then sitting the bowl of chocolate and butter on top of the saucepan – the steam from the hot water will melt the chocolate. Make sure to stir continually while the chocolate melts and only keep heat on medium to low to avoid the mixture becoming too hot.
Once melted, remove the bowl from the saucepan and allow to cool slightly. But not so much that the mixture hardens
Whisk the 4 eggs with a fork to combine yolk and egg whites and then add to the cooled chocolate and butter mixture. Stir until combined.
Sift together the flour, brown sugar and cocoa powder and then add to the chocolate, butter and egg mixture until combined.
Add 30 drops of ULU 10% concentration CBD oil. (This provides approximately 2 drops of CBD /3.2mg of CBD per brownie. You can experiment with different oil concentrations and number of drops if you like!)
Add the vanilla extract and the mayonnaise and stir until combined. (If you’re thinking ‘why mayonnaise?’ please see FAQs below!)
Grease a 26cm by 20cm baking tray and gently pour in the brownie mixture. This will make around 15 fairly thick square brownies. (It’s okay to use a larger tray, however you’ll need to bear in mind that the cooking time will need to be lowered as the brownies will not be as thick.)
Cook at 180° Celsius / 356° Fahrenheit / Gas mark 4 for 20 mins. Remove brownies after 20 mins and cover the tray with tinfoil. (This stops the top of the brownies from burning and becoming too chewy.)
Return brownies to oven and cook for a further 20 minutes. Insert a toothpick or sharp knife into the centre of the brownies. There should be a little wet batter clinging to the toothpick or knife, but they should both come out clean when inserted into the edges of the brownie tray.
Wait until cooled completely to cut into squares or rectangles!
Serve and enjoy your gooey CBD brownies.
Why on earth is there mayonnaise in this recipe?
Ok, this is something that gets a lot of disgusted reactions from people I share the recipe with – especially if they can’t stand mayonnaise. But you’ll have to trust me on this one. And in fact, lots of people are starting to realise the benefits of including mayonnaise in their baking!
Mayonnaise is simply made up of oil and eggs. So, when added to this CBD brownie recipe, all it does is make the brownies extra gooey and moist. No, you won’t be able to taste the mayo! I’ve tested this on everyone who has tried my brownies, trying to get them to guess the unusual ingredient, and not one person has ever guessed mayonnaise. – Not even people who absolutely hate mayo.
Will I taste the CBD?
CBD is known for having a very particular, almost grassy taste. And lots of people avoid cooking or baking with CBD because they think it will spoil the taste of the recipe. But honestly, there is a lot of dark chocolate and cocoa powder in these brownies. And this completely overpowers any other tastes. So, no – you won’t be able to taste any CBD.
Will I feel any effect from the CBD?
I regularly use CBD for anxiety, and I have noticed such an improvement in my mood and anxiety levels! CBD also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, so it’s great for chronic pain. However, it isn’t a quick fix. You’ll need to take CBD regularly to notice any benefits. So, no – you won’t notice any benefits or feel any effects from one brownie. But this recipe is a bit of fun – and cooking or baking with CBD is a great as a novelty way to take cannabidiol alongside daily oil drops or capsules.
Will these brownies get me high?
Nope! All ULU CBD products contain untraceable levels of THC (the chemical compound in marijuana that causes a high.) None of our CBD products cause a high and these brownies won’t either!
Can I use a higher/lower CBD concentration?
You can absolutely use any CBD oil concentration you like in these brownies. I’ve used the ULU 10% CBD oil drops enriched with GABA as these are my personal favourite! However, you can include any CBD oil drops with any concentration you have to hand. You can also decrease or increase the number of drops you use in this recipe for a higher or lower dose.
