CBD and Cancer – 5 CBD Oil Benefits For Cancer Symptoms
CBD and cancer is a popular recent topic among researchers. With cannabidiol revolutionising the health and wellness industry, it’s no wonder that research surrounding the substance is growing every day. There are hundreds of CBD companies making claims about cannabidiol. However, here at ULU we only want to bring you the facts. So, here are the 5 most common CBD oil benefits for cancer symptoms according to scientific research.
Before you read any further, however, we’d like to stress that CBD is not a known cure for cancer. It is also not a substitute for doctor-prescribed medications and treatments. The purpose of this article is simply to highlight some of the latest and most interesting research around CBD and cancer, including ways in which this research has shown CBD to be helpful to cancer sufferers. However, you should always consult your doctor before using any CBD product including CBD oil for cancer symptoms.
What is CBD
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It’s a naturally occurring compound called a cannabinoid found in plants within the cannabis species. In the UK CBD most commonly comes from hemp. This is because hemp contains naturally high levels of cannabidiol and is legal to farm in the UK. It’s a non-psychoactive substance that’s legal to buy in the UK as long as it contains less than 0.05% THC (the psychoactive chemical in marijuana that causes a high.)
What is CBD oil?
CBD oil is made, as the name suggests, by extracting cannabidiol from the hemp plant and combining it with a carrier oil. It’s designed to be taken orally – simply by placing a few drops under your tongue, waiting 60 seconds and then swallowing. CBD oil is also one of the most common ways to take CBD in the UK as it’s simple to do and is quickly absorbed by the body.
However, it’s not the only way to take CBD! Find out more about the different ways to take CBD in the UK.
What about hemp seed oil or hemp oil for cancer?
You shouldn’t confuse hemp seed oil or hemp oil with CBD, as the two are very different. Hemp seed oil and hemp oil come from the seeds of the hemp plant, which do not naturally contain much CBD. Whereas CBD comes from the leaves and stalks of the hemp plant where the cannabidiol content is far higher.
Hemp oil provides many benefits, however these are predominantly skincare and cosmetic related. In fact, the benefits and effects of taking hemp seed oil for cancer are far less researched. In addition, research that has been done has found far fewer benefits of taking hemp seed oil for cancer.
So, you should always remember to carefully check the description and label of any product you purchase. If the ingredients don’t specifically state ‘CBD’ or ‘cannabidiol’ then you can’t be confident you’re buying a CBD product.
CBD oil benefits for cancer
So, now that you understand what CBD is, let’s look at some of the most commonly reported CBD oil benefits for cancer symptoms.
Once again, we’d like to stress that whilst we’ve used only reputable research studies for this article, we are not qualified doctors here at ULU. You should also always be wary of any publication that claims CBD or any other holistic ingredient can cure cancer. This is a dangerous claim that remains unproven! In addition, always consult your doctor before using any CBD product for cancer support.
1. CBD for cancer pain
The first well-researched benefit of CBD is for cancer pain. Cancer can be an incredibly painful condition wherever it appears in the body. In addition, prescribed painkillers can often leave cancer patients with all sorts of uncomfortable and negative side-effects.
However, CBD is a known analgesic. A recent study, Cannabinoids in the management of difficult to treat pain addressed the use of CBD in a variety of chronic pain conditions, including cancer-associated pain. This study found that cannabidiol was actually able to reduce the sufferer’s perception of pain, making painful stimuli actually seem less painful. It also noted that there were very few known cases of side-effects when it comes to taking CBD for cancer pain.
Furthermore, according to a 2002 study surrounding cannabinoids and pain, ‘Cannabinoids have been observed to markedly decrease signalling in specific neural pathways that transmit messages about pain.’ This again demonstrates the ability of CBD to reduce the impact of painful conditions and stimuli on the body.
Therefore, not only is CBD a natural form of pain relief, it also helps to make the body less sensitive to pain. So, taking CBD for cancer pain could help to not only reduce existing chronic pain, but increase the body’s tolerance to pain.
2. CBD for cancer sickness and nausea
Another of the most well-researched CBD oil benefits for cancer relates to sickness and nausea. Cancer sufferers may not only feel nauseous from pain, but also from the effects of cancer treatments such as chemo. In fact, according to Cancer Research UK, sickness and vomiting is one of the main side-effects of chemotherapy treatment.
So, let’s look at CBD for cancer sickness and nausea:
Here’s a snippet from a recent study, Regulation of nausea and vomiting by cannabinoids:
“…evidence from animal experiments suggests that cannabinoids may be especially useful in treating the more difficult to control symptoms of nausea and anticipatory nausea in chemotherapy patients, which are less well controlled by the currently available conventional pharmaceutical agents.”
So, not only does CBD provide support for sickness and nausea; again, it outperforms prescribed medications in this specific benefit. However, it’s important to note that these results are from an animal trial.
This article also found that CBD is an agonist of the CB1 receptor, and that it regulates the body’s production of 5-HT. Both of these factors help to prevent nausea and vomiting responses.
This means that taking a CBD oil or even vaping cannabidiol could be a great addition alongside chemotherapy treatments – which are known to cause significant nausea. It can also be useful for those sufgering from loss of appetite due to nausea and sickness!
3. CBD for mood and stress
The mental stress of a cancer diagnosis can in some cases be just as difficult as any physical symptoms.
In addition, although there is no direct correlation between levels of stress and cancer progression, some data does suggest an association between higher rates of cancer death and patients developing a sense of hopelessness from stress. Therefore, when suffering from cancer, it’s important to find ways to manage stress and overwhelm.
In the health and wellness industry, CBD is known for its natural ability to support anxiety, mood and stress disorders. Recent studies have shown that CBD was able to reduce anxiety levels, as well as negative self-perception in participants. This is due to the fact that CBD is able to activate 5-HT1A receptors – both reducing anxiety levels and making stressful stimuli seem less stressful.
Furthermore, CBD is able to have a gentle and natural effect on mood. Whilst CBD doesn’t help your body to produce more serotonin, (nature’s ‘happy’ chemical) it does affect your body’s ability to respond to serotonin already in your system.
4. CBD For a good night’s sleep
A chronic lack of sleep can be another harsh reality for cancer patients. Whether this comes from pain, anxiety or side-effects from treatment, a bad night’s sleep can have debilitating effects on cancer sufferers.
So, it’s natural that one of the most important CBD oil benefits for cancer patients comes in the form of improved sleep patterns – but how does this work?
Well, CBD is able to provide benefits for sleep due to the way it affects the Endocannabinoid System (ECS.) The ECS is a complex cell-signalling system found within the body, responsible for maintaining homeostasis. This is the fine balance that keeps our body functioning properly. Due to its role in homeostasis, the ECS is responsible for many biological processes such as mood, memory, fertility, immune function, inflammation – and sleep!
When you take CBD, it effectively acts as a power-up to the body’s Endocannabinoid System, helping it to do its job. So, taking a high dose of CBD on a regular basis can actually help to improve both sleep quantity and quality.
5. Further therapeutic potential for CBD and cancer
Although much more research is needed on the subject, there is some evidence to show some CBD oil benefits for cancer treatment and therapy more generally.
According to the research paper, The Therapeutic Aspects of the Endocannabinoid System for Cancer, there is growing evidence to show that through cannabinoids, the ECS is able to actually slow cancer progression. According to the article:
“Cannabinoid administration has been proven to slow tumor growth, as well as to slow lung carcinoma, prostate cancer, glioma, and skin carcinomas in mice …Remarkably, cannabinoids target cancer cells, while non-tumor cells and tissues are avoided. This apparent selectivity for tumor cells makes the ECS system an attractive potential target for cancer therapy.”
For these reasons, the same study also proposed potential CBD oil benefits for cancer prevention in addition to symptom management.
However, once again, this research is in its early stages. Therefore, CBD should never be used as a substitute for doctor-recommended treatments, medications and interventions. Furthermore, CBD and cancer is a relatively new research area that needs further extensive studies to provide any certainty.

7 Reasons to Take CBD For Migraines According to Science
Anyone who has experienced migraines knows how truly debilitating they can be. Much worse than a simple headache, migraines can come with nausea, sensory disturbances, vertigo and extreme, chronic pain. But it’s not all bad news for migraine sufferers. According to ongoing scientific research, there are some promising benefits of taking CBD oil for migraines. So, here are 7 reasons to use CBD for migraines – according to science!
1. Pain management
If you suffer from migraines, then you’ll know that this is a chronic pain condition. In addition to the intense headache that comes with the migraine itself, sufferers also have to deal with neck pain and muscle soreness, as well as increased sensitivity to pain in general.
But there is significant evidence to show that taking CBD oil for migraines can help with this issue. This is because CBD is a known analgesic. When you take CBD, it works to boost the function of your body’s Endocannabinoid System. – A cell-signalling system within the body responsible for maintaining homeostasis. It also helps to regulate both response and sensitivity to painful stimuli.
CBD also helps control and regulate the body’s nociceptive system – the sensory nervous system’s response to certain harmful or potentially harmful stimuli. So, when you take CBD for migraines, you’re not only helping to reduce pain from headaches, you’re also helping your body to become less sensitive to pain in general.
2. Reduced Migraine-related nausea
Aside from the debilitating pain that comes with a migraine, many sufferers also report extreme nausea and sometimes vomiting before or during an episode.
However, a recent study into cannabidiol and migraines titled: ‘Regulation of nausea and vomiting by cannabinoids’ found that the manipulation of the Endocannabinoid System via cannabinoids such as CBD can regulate and reduce nausea and vomiting. This is because taking CBD for migraines reduces the amount of 5-HT in the brain – a chemical known to cause nausea.
In addition, Dr Silberstein from the American Migraine Foundation has reported the benefits of CBD for migraine nausea.
3. Reduced inflammation
You may not know that inflammation plays a significant role in the formation of migraines. In fact, migraine diagnosis is associated with elevated high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP), a marker of inflammation. This happens most commonly in young adults and women, however can also play a role in adult male migraines.
However, CBD is a powerful, natural anti-inflammatory component. It helps the body to regulate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines to suppress the body’s inflammatory response.
So, when you take CBD oil for migraines, you’re helping your body to limit its neurogenic inflammation response. – which could be a natural aid alongside taking a NSAID medication such as Ibuprofen.
4. Support with stress and anxiety
Migraines and stress are directly linked. In fact, any intense emotion or mental state can provoke an episode for migraine sufferers. Furthermore, according to a recent publication by the American Headache Society:
- 4 out of 5 people with migraines report stress as a major trigger
- 40% of those with migraines also suffer from depression
- Over 50% of migraine sufferers also experience anxiety
These factors are another reason to consider taking CBD oil for migraines. CBD possesses anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties. It’s also a known, natural relaxant, helping both the body and the mind to destress and release tension. In fact, a recent study found that CBD was able to increase hippocampal generation and neurogenesis. This process is directly linked to stress resilience and improved mood.
5. Migraine Prevention
Whilst many of the benefits discussed so far relate to migraine relief, there is also evidence to show that taking CBD can actually help to prevent migraines before they develop.
The Endocannabinoid System works through a variety of receptors in the body, one of which (the CB1 receptor) is found abundantly in the brain. So, when you take CBD oil for migraines, your CB1 receptors become activated, helping to block peripheral and central nociceptive traffic. We’ve already mentioned that this can reduce sensitivity to pain, and therefore this can also help to prevent both the frequency and severity of migraine episodes.
Taking CBD for migraines can also help to inhibit cortical spreading depression (CSD) – the process that causes a migraine ‘aura’. (The unpleasant precursor to a migraine that can come with sickness, vertigo, increased sensitivity to light and even memory loss.)
6. Improved ECS function
The Endocannabinoid System is responsible for many important bodily functions and processes. It helps the body to maintain homeostasis – the fine balance that keeps us running optimally. However, disruptions to the ECS caused by cannabinoid deficiency have also recently be linked to a number of health issues including migraines.
Cannabinoid deficiency occurs when our cannabinoid reserves run low. And whilst your body can produce some cannabinoids itself, (these are called endocannabinoids) some cannabinoids can only be found in plants and supplements (phytocannabioids.)
Therefore, when you take CBD oil for migraines, you’re not only helping to reduce migraine symptoms and prevent episodes, you’re also helping to keep your ECS working optimally by maintaining your cannabinoid levels.
Did you know that the ECS also helps to regulate things like sleep, mood, memory, appetite and immune response. (We’ve written a blog about the Endocannabinoid System if you’d like to know more about how important it is to the body)
7. No adverse side-effects
Many anti-migraine therapies come with negative side-effects, a challenge which has caused discontinuation of research and development of many potential anti-migraine drugs.
So, it’s great news for migraine sufferers that there are no known side-effects when it comes to taking CBD oil for migraines. Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive and non-rewarding substance. This means that you won’t feel high from taking it, and you won’t experience an altered mental state. In addition, there are no known adverse side-effects from taking CBD!

CBD Oil For Cats: The Complete 2020 Guide
CBD oil for cats: a relatively new development in the world of CBD! And with more and more pet cannabidiol products entering the UK market, it can be difficult to know where to start.
We know that as a pet owner, you only want the best for your feline friend – and you’d never want to trial a product without researching it first. So, we’ve created this complete 2020 guide on CBD oil products for cats.

What is CBD oil for cats?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is a chemical called a cannabinoid found most commonly within the hemp plant. And quite simply, CBD oil for cats is made when hemp-based cannabidiol is extracted and combined with a carrier oil, designed to be swallowed by cats usually at mealtimes.
Will CBD get my cat high?
Short answer: No!
Let’s get one thing straight. CBD is not marijuana, and therefore it won’t get your cat high.
CBD comes from hemp, which is a plant within the cannabis sativa species that is known for it’s high levels of cannabidiol. Marijuana is another plant within this species, but it couldn’t be more different from hemp! Marijuana contains very little CBD and also contains a chemical called THC – the psychoactive bit that causes a high.
To be legal in the UK, CBD products must contain less than 0.00% THC – something we guarantee here at ULU! So, always make sure to buy hemp-based CBD products from companies who have a 0.00% THC guarantee to avoid buying an illegal and potentially intoxicating product.
CBD products for cats – are they safe?
Yes! Studies have shown that there are no known adverse effects when it comes to using CBD products for cats.
However, to further ensure your cat’s safety:
- Do not buy products that contain THC
- Only use CBD isolate products – not full or broad spectrum
- Use the correct dosing guidelines (see our CBD oil dosage for cats below)
How does CBD oil for cats work?
Using CBD oil for your cats can have a wide variety of benefits, which we’ll get to in a second! But it’s also useful to understand why CBD is able to have these benefits. CBD oil works by boosting the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) – a cell-signalling system present in cats as well as humans, dogs and other animals.
The ECS is responsible for maintaining homeostasis within the body – the strict parameters of balance that allow everything to function properly. And as a result of this, the ECS has a proven effect on a number of physiological processes including:
- Mood and anxiety
- Immune function
- Inflammation and pain response
- Brain and heart health
The ECS works via receptors throughout the body which act like locks. And when you take cannabidiol, this acts like a key – unlocking the receptors and allowing the ECS to do its job maintaining homeostasis.
CBD isolate for cats
Before we talk any more about this subject, it’s very important to note that you should only ever buy CBD isolate products for your cats!
What does this mean?
Well, there are 3 different types of CBD available in the UK: CBD isolate, broad-spectrum CBD and full-spectrum CBD. CBD isolate is the purest form of cannabidiol, full-spectrum contains cannabidiol in addition to other terpenes and cannabinoids found within the hemp plant. And broad-spectrum is somewhere in between. However, whilst full-spectrum CBD is great for humans and even dogs, the feline Endocannabinoid System cannot process some of the other chemicals found in hemp.
For this reason, it’s important to only buy pure CBD isolate products for your cat. So, always make sure to carefully check the label of anything you buy, and always remember to consult your vet before trialling a CBD product on your feline friend.
What are the benefits of CBD oil for cats?
Research into the benefits of CBD oil for cats is relatively new, and as such, much more research is needed in this area. And whilst CBD is not intended to treat or cure feline illness, and is not a substitute for vet-prescribed medications, here’s what current research has to say about the benefits of CBD oil for cats:
Anxiety and stress
Nobody wants to see their cat feeling anxious or distressed. But cats are sensitive creatures, and even a change in surroundings or routine can lead to a jittery, stressed out cat.
However there is significant research to show that using CBD oil for cats can help to provide a long-term calming effect. CBD is a natural relaxant that can help to ease physical stress whilst also working with the brain to make negative stimuli seem less stressful.
Arthritis and joint pain
Arthritis and joint pain affects mainly older cats. It happens when the cartilage and bone between joints starts to degenerate, causing stiffness, swelling and chronic pain.
CBD is a natural anti-inflammatory component. It works with the Endocannabinoid System to reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, helping to regulate inflammation response. And this has been shown to reduce pain, swelling and irritation in both humans and dogs. In fact, a recent study showed a significant decrease in pain and an increase in activity after using CBD on dogs with osteoarthritis.
Therefore, this could be another of the potential benefits of CBD oil for cats.
Cats can often have a finnicky appetite, especially if you’re transitioning them to a different diet. And a fussy cat is difficult to please!
So, it’s good news for fussy pet owners that CBD works with the Endocannabinoid System to promote a healthy appetite. In addition, loss of appetite in pets can often be caused by pain or nausea. And CBD is known to have analgesic properties, whilst also helping to reduce nausea. So, if your cat’s lack of appetite is due to pain or sickness, then using CBD oil for cats could help to improve appetite.
CBD oil dosage for cats
Finding the right CBD oil dosage for cats can be tricky, and of course the right dose for your cat depends on the benefits you’re looking to receive as well as the weight of your cat. It goes without saying that larger cats and more complex health issues will need larger doses.
Furthermore, you should be prepared to try some trial and error before finding the CBD level that works for your feline friend. However, here’s our best advice on how to find the correct CBD oil dosage for cats.
Remember: CBD is not intended to replace vet-prescribed medications or advice.
Start small and build up
When finding the right CBD oil dosage for cats, it’s always best to start small and build up. Start with 5mg per day and then wait to see if this has any effect. If you don’t notice anything after a couple of weeks, build up to 5mg 2-3 times per day. Repeat this process, gently increasing the dose until you find something that works for your cat. But always remember to follow the manufacturers’ dosing guidelines and to consult your vet!
Work out single-use dose
Many retailers claim outlandish benefits when selling CBD oil products for cats, whilst only including negligible amounts of CBD. And with so many different markers of CBD concentration from different retailers, from mg, %, and PPM, it’s important to first work out the amount of cannabidiol per single dose.
So, always remember to divide the total amount of CBD in the bottle by the number of single uses. Alternatively, prioritise buying from retailers who are clear about how much CBD is in each product dose. This will help you to accurately find the best CBD oil dosage for your cat.
It’s important to emphasise that CBD is not a miracle cure or treatment. It’s not uncommon for cat owners to trial a CBD product on their feline friend and give up after a week because they haven’t noticed any benefits. But as with human use, you’ll need to use CBD over a long-term period to receive any real benefits.
This is because, much like any supplement, it takes time for your body to build up consistent, high levels of cannabidiol. You wouldn’t expect to take one multi-vitamin and notice any difference! So, why would a CBD product be any different?
So, when you find the right CBD oil dosage for cats, just remember to continue this over a long-term period.
How to find the best CBD oil for cats
There are thousands of CBD products for cats on the UK market – more and more every day it seems! And whilst it’s great to have choice, it can sometimes be difficult to cut through all the noise and find a product you can trust.
So, here are 6 of our best recommendations about how to find the best CBD oil for cats.
1. Always consult a vet
First and foremost, you should always consult your vet before trying CBD products for cats. Your vet should be able to make an appropriate recommendation and also will be aware of your cat’s medical history.
2. CBD isolate
Secondly, when trying to find the best CBD products for cats, you should only by CBD isolate options. As we’ve already mentioned, you should avoid full- and broad-spectrum CBD as these contain components that aren’t compatible with your cat’s Endocannabinoid System.
As a result, you should read product information and labels very carefully. It’s really much safer to buy a CBD product specifically labelled ‘for cats’ – as opposed to ‘pet CBD.’ And you should never assume that you can give your cat the same CBD that you use for yourself or for your dog.
3. Consider your cat’s needs
Whilst CBD oil for cats is not designed to cure or treat any medical problems, a variety of benefits are coming to light based on recent research. However, you’ll need to consider your cat’s needs in order to find the best CBD product for your cat.
For example, if you’re looking for support with a long-term issue such as anxiety or appetite, you’ll need to use a slightly higher concentration than if you were looking to achieve cosmetic benefits such as a shiny and healthy coat. And of course, a larger cat will also likely need a higher CBD concentration.
4. Hemp oil CBD
Here at ULU, we firmly believe that the best CBD products for cats are derived from hemp. There are other plants within the cannabis species that contain CBD – including marijuana. However, hemp contains the highest quantities of cannabidiol and is also legal in the UK. Whereas marijuana is not.
5. Flavoured CBD for cats
When finding the best CBD products for cats, this can often come down to simply finding something that your cat won’t run away from! Of course, you could find a great, high-quality CBD isolate product that suits your cat’s needs, however if your feline friend won’t swallow it, then there’s no point!
For this reason, you should look for a suitably flavoured CBD oil or edible product. Our 5% CBD hemp oil for cats comes in a subtle fishy flavour. And it’s designed to be mixed into food at mealtimes – so even the fussiest of felines will love it!
6. Find a reputable company
Lastly, when finding the best CBD products for cats, you should always make sure to buy from a reputable company. However, with more and more CBD retailers popping up every day, how can you tell a trustworthy company from a non-trustworthy one?
- Only purchase from companies who have their products tested by independent labs to verify quality and purity. You can find our ULU lab reports here.
- Read reviews not just on the retailer’s website but on third-party review sites
- Only buy from companies who are very clear about how much CBD you’re getting per dose. Many retailers make it difficult for you to understand how much cannabidiol is in each use of the product, and this is an easy way to hide low-concentration, low-quality products. Here at ULU, our CBD oil for cats contains around 5mg of CBD per spray. Simple!

The Complete 2020 ULU Guide to Using CBD Oil For Dogs
Dog CBD is on the rise in the UK market. In fact, thousands of UK pet owners are turning to CBD to support the health of their furry friends. But if you don’t know where to start it can all be a bit confusing. So, we’ve created The Complete 2020 ULU Guide to Using CBD Oil For Dogs.
In this article, we’ll be covering:
- What is CBD oil for dogs?
- Will CBD get your dog high?
- How to choose the best CBD oil for dogs
- The benefits of using CBD hemp oil for dogs
- How to find the correct dosage for your pet
What is CBD oil for dogs?
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It’s a type of chemical called an cannabinoid, and it comes from hemp. And quite simply, CBD oil for dogs is cannabidiol mixed into an edible carrier oil, designed to be ingested by canines, usually at mealtimes.
Will CBD get your dog high?
CBD is a non-psychoactive, non-rewarding substance. And as long as you buy a THC-free product (the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana) it will not cause a high in humans or dogs!
How to choose the best CBD oil for dogs
There are a few important things to look out for when it comes to buying the best CBD oil for dogs. And it’s worth taking the extra time to decide on your purchase because naturally, you wouldn’t want to give your pet anything low quality or potentially dangerous! So, here are 4 important factors to look out for to help you guarantee the best possible product:
1. For canine use
Firstly, you’ll want to buy a product that specifies canine use on the bottle. This is because human CBD can sometimes come with additives and extras that might not be designed to suit man’s best friend!
2. Pleasant flavour
Secondly, and perhaps most simply, the best CBD oil for dogs is one that your pet will actually enjoy! So, it’s no use buying a dog CBD product with a strong, earthy flavour that your pet will run a mile from! Instead, you should try to find products with flavours your dog will actually enjoy to avoid wasting money. A product with a meaty flavour, designed to be mixed into food will usually do the trick!
3. CBD hemp oil for dogs
Next, it’s important to make sure the CBD oil you’re buying comes from hemp and not marijuana!
Marijuana and hemp are both part of the cannabis plant family. However, they couldn’t be more different. This is because marijuana contains a substance called THC – the psychoactive chemical that causes users to feel high. It’s also illegal in the UK and very harmful to dogs.
And whilst CBD oil can come from either hemp or marijuana, only hemp CBD oil will contain 0% THC in the UK. Therefore, you should only buy UK CBD hemp oil for dogs. Because, provided it comes from a reputable, trustworthy company, this will not contain any harmful THC.
4. Full-spectrum oil
Lastly, the best CBD hemp oil for dogs is one that is classed as full-spectrum.
There are three classes of CBD oil: isolate, broad spectrum and full-spectrum. CBD isolate is the purest, most isolated form of CBD. Full-spectrum contains cannabidiol, in addition to other beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes and oils found in the hemp plant. And broad spectrum is somewhere in between the two.
So, full spectrum CBD hemp oil for dogs is a superior product, because it allows your canine friend to benefit from all of the other compounds found within the hemp plant – not just cannabidiol!
And of course, here at ULU we think our 5% full-spectrum CBD hemp oil for canine use is the best CBD oil for for dogs on the UK market! It comes with organic Cannabidiol and a subtle sausage flavour even the fussiest of pets will love!
Why use CBD hemp oil for dogs?
So, what are the benefits of giving your dog a CBD oil product? Here are X main areas that have proved promising based on scientific research and canine trials so far.
However, we’d like to stress that CBD oil isn’t designed to cure illnesses in animals. We’ve listed the benefits below in relation to particular research studies and clinical trials, however there is still more research that needs to be done in this area. Therefore, you should never use CBD as a substitute for vet-prescribed medications, and always consult your vet before giving your dog a CBD product.
The canine Endocannabinoid System
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a cell-signalling system found within both humans and canines, as well as a variety of other animals. It’s responsible for helping the body to maintain homeostasis – the strictly balanced parameters that keep us functioning properly.
The ECS works through receptors present throughout the body. These receptors act like a lock – opened by cannabinoids including CBD. And when these receptors are unlocked, they provide benefits for a wide variety of physiological processes including:
- Immune system response
So, using CBD for yourself or for your pet will help the ECS to function properly, helping to support overall health and wellbeing!
No pet owner wants to see their dog experience anxiety. But it’s something that can quickly flare up due to something as simple as a change in routine, a new environment, or every pet owner’s worst nightmare – firework night!
CBD is a known and natural relaxant, often used by human sufferers of anxiety. This is due to the fact that CBD helps the body to produce both serotonin (nature’s happy chemical) and the calming amino acid, GABA.
And so more and more pet owners are using CBD hemp oil for dog anxiety. In fact, a recent study showed that anxiety and phobia reduction was one of the top 5 reasons for pet CBD purchases.
It can be difficult if your dog is a fussy eater! And even more difficult if nausea and sickness is something that accompanies this issue.
If this sounds like your dog, you’ll be pleased to know that dog CBD can help to calm a sensitive or stressed stomach, promote a healthy appetite and also reduce nausea in canines.
In fact, this is one of the reasons why CBD is often given alongside canine cancer medications.
Idiopathic epilepsy, a seizure inducing illness affects nearly 6% of the canine population worldwide. This makes it one of the most common canine neurologic conditions!
However, A recent study into using CBD oil for dog seizures found that 89% of dogs who received CBD in the clinical trial had a reduction in the frequency of seizures.
In fact, the study facilitator stated: “We saw a correlation between how high the levels of CBD were in these dogs with how great the seizure reduction was.”
Osteoarthritis and other painful joint conditions are on the rise in canines due to an ageing dog population and an increase in dog obesity.
If you’ve read any of our blogs here at ULU, you’ll already know that CBD is a powerful, natural anti-inflammatory component. And the reason for this is that CBD has been proven to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines in the body. In fact this recent study found that cannabinol was able to significantly decrease pain and increase mobility in dogs with OA.
CBD oil dosage for dogs
When it comes to choosing the correct CBD oil dosage for dogs, this depends on a few factors:
- The weight of your dog
- The benefits you’re looking to achieve
- The specific product you’re buying
When it comes to using the correct CBD oil dosage for dogs, you should aim to start with up to 5 mg CBD per 5 kG of body weight per day. It’s better to start with a lower dose to ease your dog into taking CBD. Then, wait a couple of weeks to see if you’ve noticed any benefits and slowly increase the dose as needed.
The health benefits
CBD isn’t a magical cure-all for humans or for canines! It doesn’t work overnight and it can’t solve every problem. So, you’ll need to use CBD regularly and over a long-term period to have any real benefits.
Furthermore, different doses are better suited to different issues. If you’re looking for support with a long-term chronic pain issue or a severe anxiety problem, you’ll likely need a slightly higher dose than a pet owner who’s just looking to support overall health and wellbeing.
Disclaimer: You should never attempt to treat a canine medical issue or use a CBD product on your dog without first consulting your vet! And remember, CBD oil for dogs is an added health aid – it’s not a substitute for vet prescribed medication.
There are hundreds of CBD pet products on the UK market all in different sizes and different levels of strength. And unfortunately, markers of CBD concentration can change from retailer to retailer. Some us mg, some use % of CBD and some use PPM. This can make it really difficult to compare products and actually work out how much CBD you’re getting per dose.
But you’ll need to be able to work out amount of CBD per use to find the right CBD oil dosage for dogs. As a result, we only recommend buying from retailers who provide you with this information. Or, at the very least provide you with the total CBD content and the number of uses per bottle so you can work this out for yourself.
Here at ULU, we want to make it simple for people to work out the correct CBD oil dosage for dogs. So, our CBD hemp oil for dogs contains approximately 5mg of CBD! Simple.
Why not try it for yourself?
So, now you understand more about dog CBD, its benefits as well as how to choose the right CBD oil dosage for dogs, why not try it for yourself?
Our innovative new organic hemp CBD oil for dogs is one of the highest-concentration, purest quality pet CBD products in the UK. With a subtle sausage flavour, even the fussiest pets will love our premium formula. Designed to support overall canine health and wellbeing in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle!
Remember, we advise that you consult your vet before trying out any CBD product on your dog!
CBD Oil For Digestion: 4 Ways CBD Improves Digestive Health
The digestive system. We all have one, and we all understand that it’s important to look after it. However, what you might not know is that there are actually many benefits when it comes to taking CBD oil for digestion. There’s plenty of research around the benefits of CBD for IBS and other chronic digestive conditions. But there’s also significant evidence to show that CBD can help to maintain everyday gut health.
So, here are 4 ways CBD can improve digestive health – whether you have a chronic illness or not!
1. CBD helps regulate gut bacteria
There are trillions of bacteria in your gut right now. And whilst your gut micro-biome plays an important role in digestion, it also impacts your overall health. Imbalanced gut bacteria can lead to digestive issues, but also obesity, depression, stress and reduced immune function. It’s no wonder that the gut is often referred to as the body’s ‘second brain.‘ It’s therefore crucial for your overall health that you maintain a healthy, balanced gut micro-biome.
And a recent, fascinating study entitled Endocannabinoids in the Gut found that cannabinoids such as CBD play an important role in the gut due to their interaction with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS.) This study concluded that the ECS helped to regulate gut functions including gut–brain-mediated fat intake and hunger signaling, as well as dynamic interactions with gut microbiota.
Just one of the many reasons why researchers are starting to recommend taking CBD oil for digestion.
2. CBD reduces intestinal permeability
Intestinal permeability occurs when the gut wall starts to lose its integrity. And this causes dangerous materials from inside the gut to enter into the bloodstream. Now, this is common for those who suffer from digestive issues such as IBS, Crohn’s disease, and celiac disease. However it can also occur in those who are affected by diabetes, obesity, and even some allergies.
However, research has also shown that CBD not only helps to prevent this issue, but that it can actually help to restore existing intestinal barrier dysfunction. In fact, this is one of the main reasons why many people choose to take CBD for IBS as well as leaky gut.
So, taking CBD oil for digestion can keep your gut wall intact and protect your bloodstream from any harmful gut bacteria.
3. CBD reduces inflammation
Inflammation in the digestive system can be extremely damaging. Many chronic digestive conditions come with painful inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, gut or digestive organs. And in the rest of the population, inflammation can also often cause painful bloating.
If you’ve been following along with ULU content, you’ll already know that CBD is a powerful natural anti-inflammatory. It’s something we talk about a lot here at ULU, as inflammation is at the heart of so many chronic pain conditions and skin issues.
But more specifically, CBD helps reduce intestinal inflammation by affecting the neuroimmune system. This is the complex interaction between your nervous and your immune systems, which triggers inflammation as part of an immune response. This is another reason why many chronic sufferers use CBD for IBS symptoms. But this is also a reason why CBD can be used to treat gut pain and bloating more generally.
CBD helps to relax your digestive system
Your digestive system needs to be relaxed to function properly. Illnesses such as IBS come with painful contractions from the muscles within the digestive system. However, a relaxed digestive system is also important for those without chronic conditions. Digestive problems such as constipation can be caused by tensed intestinal muscles, which often happens as a result of stress.
But if you suffer from a digestive illness or perpetual stress, don’t fear! CBD is a natural relaxant, working to calm your nerve connections, muscles and even your mind. This is why cannabidiol is often used to treat digestive issues, but also stress and anxiety. And as poor digestive health is also linked to stress, CBD can work on both the body and the brain to keep everything running smoothly.
Therefore taking a high-strength CBD oil therefore can not only help to tackle the physical issue, but also facilitate mental relaxation to keep your digestive system working as it should!

CBD Acne Products: Why and How to Use CBD for Acne
Acne. The scourge of the skin. As one of the most common skin conditions, affecting 95% of people aged 11 to 30 in the UK during at least one period of their lives, its hard to believe that we haven’t found a complete cure. But with the introduction of CBD skincare into the health and wellness market, more and more people in the UK are realising the benefits of cannabidiol for a variety of skin conditions. In this article we’ll take a look at the 5 ways CBD acne products can help to reduce acne, as well as how to use CBD for acne to get the best results.
1. CBD acne products help to reduce sebum
One of the main triggers of acne is the excess production of sebum, a type of oil produced within the sebaceous glands. And whilst this stops your skin from drying out, sometimes the glands can become overactive. In this case, the sebum clings to dead skin cells, plugging up pores and follicles to cause the dreaded acne outbreak.
However, a recent study by the University of Lübeck, Helsinki found that “Cbd behaves as a highly effective sebostatic agent.” This means that CBD is able to actually reduce the amount of sebum produced by the sebaceous glands. The study also found that topically applied CBD acne products were actually absorbed by the sebaceous glands – which allows CBD skincare products to get to the root of the problem without having to be ingested.
2. CBD balances moisture in the skin
One of the negative side effects of anti acne medications is that they can often dry out the skin, leading to itching, cracking and tightness. One of the most common anti-acne medications, benzoyl peroxide, contains chemicals which can dry and crack the skin. In fact, users of both over the counter and prescription anti-acne solutions are continually inundating advice columns and beauty gurus for advice on skin moisture.
However the beauty of cbd is that whilst it helps to reduce oily sebum, it also acts as a gentle moisturiser. Another recent study found that CBD “contributes to the development of dryness-accompanied skin diseases” due to the way it affects the body’s inflammatory response. So, using a cbd acne products will also help to keep your skin feeling supple and soft – as well as helping to reduce acne.
In fact, one of the members of our ULU community recently trialled our CBD body oil for dry skin with amazing results! You can read about that here!
3. CBD is a powerful natural anti-inflammatory
Acne can leave the skin red, swollen and inflamed. And everyone who’s experienced acne knows the frustration of facial redness and swelling, especially during an outbreak.
However CBD is actually a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. CBD works by binding to receptors of your Endocannabinoid System – a complex cel signalling system within our bodies responsible for regulating a number of processes including sleep, memory, appetite – and most importantly for acne, inflammation.
CBD helps the ECS to function properly. And when you take CBD, your ECS prompts your body to suppress the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This essentially means that inflammatory response is regulated and reduced – leading to clear, even skin.
4. CBD acne products can help to reduce acne scars
Acne can cause significant facial damage – and not only during an outbreak! Chronic acne sufferers may also have to deal with prominent facial scarring once the pimples have subsided.
A study published by La Clinica Terapeutica recently found that CBD is able to help reduce facial scarring. During this study, participants trialled a topical cbd applied to their scars over a period of three months. And it was found that CBD was able to significantly reduce the appearance of scarring by improving skin elasticity and boosting hydration within the skin.
And although this experiment focused on scars from psoriasis and dermatitis, the results are still promising for those with scarring from acne.
5. No nasty side-effects
Another reason why cbd can provide effective support for acne sufferers is that (discounting an allergic reaction) there are currently no known side effects of topically applied cbd oils or creams.
We’ve already discussed the skin dryness that can result from using harsh, chemical anti-acne medication. However, the most common side-effects of these medications can range from red, peeling skin, to discolouration, and in the case of antibiotics, even a nasty tummy upset.
However, CBD is a natural, plant-based product. It may work powerfully when taken in substantial doses, however it also works gently. So, there shouldn’t be any nasty side-effects from using a CBD acne cream.
How to use cbd for acne
So now you understand the benefits of cbd for acne related skin conditions. However, cbd isn’t some kind of magical cure-all. So, you shouldn’t expect to apply a CBD cream or body oil to acne once and miraculously notice results. You’ll need to develop an effective CBD skincare routine to help reduce acne!
So, if you’re wondering how to use CBD for acne, we recommend:
1. Using a high-concentration CBD acne product
Many CBD retailers promote CBD acne creams and skincare products with only minute quantities of cannabidiol. But this will only affect your bank account, not your skin.
Your skin is a natural barrier that’s difficult to penetrate. So, we’re not confident that any CBD topical cream with less then 1% cannabidiol concentration is going to have any real benefits. And really, the higher the concentration the better.
That’s why here at ULU, we offer some of the highest concentration CBD acne and skincare products in the UK!
2. Applying your CBD acne product regularly
CBD has some amazing benefits. But you won’t notice any difference from using a CBD acne cream or product once. As with any CBD product, acne creams will need to be applied regularly, over a long-term basis to have any effect.
We recommend applying a high-concentration CBD oil, cream or serum to your skin twice a day. And if you don’t notice any difference after 2-3 weeks, you’ll need to think about buying something with a higher concentration level.
3. Applying your CBD acne cream to clean, dry skin
CBD can’t work on its own to reduce acne and brighten skin. You’ll need to consider a wider skincare routine to clean, exfoliate and moisturise too. This is because acne is caused by excess oil mixing with dead skin cells, which then plugs up your follicles and pores. So, you’ll need to take care of your skin to prevent this from happening and remove any build-up.
Of course, you can find CBD exfoliators and CBD moisturisers. However if you’re simply using a cbd body oil, you should make sure your skin is exfoliated, cleansed and moisturised before you apply it to receive the most benefits.
4. Combining your skincare product with other forms of CBD
CBD acne creams and skincare products are great for skin moisture and healing, and they do attach to ECS receptors in the skin to provide wider benefits. But to receive an even greater effect, why not try combining your CBD acne cream with a type of cannabidiol designed to enter the bloodstream?
CBD vapes and CBD sublingual oils are able to quickly and efficiently enter the bloodstream and combine with internal ECS receptors for improved benefits. Perfect for improving your overall health and wellbeing as well as your skin.

Everything You Need to Know About Buying CBD in Manchester
When it comes to CBD, Manchester is ahead of the curve. While the CBD industry is still comparatively new to the UK, in Manchester it has already taken off, with many Manchester residents using it to treat pain, anxiety, stress and sleeplessness. However, with so much choice on the market, it can be difficult to know where to start. So, here’s everything you need to know when it comes to buying CBD in Manchester. We’ll cover different types of CBD products in Manchester, how to find a reputable CBD company, and where to buy CBD oil in Manchester.
A quick guide to hemp and CBD oil in Manchester
- Hemp-derived CBD oil in Manchester (and other CBD products) are widely available
- Industrial hemp cultivated in England must contain 0.2% THC or less
- CBD oil in Manchester includes full-spectrum , broad spectrum and isolate options
- In England the Home Office regulates the cultivation, processing, and sale of hemp.
- If you wish to register to grow hemp in England you can find further advice here
- CBD products in Manchester, and the UK as a whole, must have untraceable levels of THC – so less than 0.00% THC content
Is it legal to buy CBD in Manchester?
Short answer: Yes! CBD is not considered a controlled substance in the UK, and therefore it is completely legal to buy CBD in Manchester.
Long answer: Whilst CBD products in Manchester are legal, they do come with some restrictions. Any CBD product you buy will need to meet all British legal standards and requirements. And this includes containing less than 0.00% THC content. (THC is the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana that causes a high. It’s illegal in the UK.)
It’s also important to note that the guidelines around CBD oil in Manchester could soon be changing. In Europe, CBD oil has recently been classed as a novel food item, meaning that it could become banned. And whilst it’s unclear whether the UK will follow Europe by introducing this restriction, it’s still important to keep up to date with the laws surrounding UK CBD.
You should also make sure to only buy from UK-based CBD businesses. Contrary to popular belief, guidelines regarding hemp-derived CBD can still vary wildly from country to country. So, there’s always a risk in Manchester of finding CBD products that have been imported from other countries and may not be legal here.
Remember, you’ll still be held liable for purchasing an illegal product, even if it was mis-sold to you by a CBD retailer!
CBD products in Manchester
There’s a lot of choice when it comes to buying CBD products in Manchester. And whilst this means there’s truly a CBD product for everyone, it also means that it can be difficult to find the right product – especially from a retailer you can trust.
We’ll talk more below about how to find a reputable CBD retailer, as well as how to choose a product that works for you. But to help you understand your options, here are some of the most popular CBD products in Manchester.
CBD OIL IN MANCHESTER
Over the last 5 years, CBD oil in Manchester has exploded in popularity. In fact, CBD oral drops are regarded by many as the most common form of CBD in the UK as a whole. And this is likely because CBD oil is extremely easy to use. Simply use the dropper to place 2-3 drops under your tongue. Then, wait for 60 seconds for your body to absorb the CBD. Alternatively, try adding CBD oil to food – such as our gooey CBD chocolate brownies!
As CBD oil is applied under the tongue, it is quickly and directly absorbed into the bloodstream. This makes oils great for helping with any longer-term mood issues such as anxiety and stress. Cannabidiol is also a natural anti-inflammatory, so swallowing high-strength CBD over a long-term period can also help with chronic inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, IBS and other auto-immune illnesses.
However, you’ll need to take high concentrations of CBD oil to receive any real benefits. That’s why here at ULU, we offer some of the most potent CBD oils on the UK market. And we always clearly publish the exact level of CBD per individual drop, so you can easily compare products.
CBD beauty and skincare ranges are perhaps the newest additions to the Manchester CBD market. However, as CBD is a powerful natural anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and moisturiser, it’s really no surprise that it’s becoming more common in the beauty and skincare industry.
CBD skincare comes in the form of creams, oils and serums, applied directly to the skin. This means they are great for helping with dry skin conditions, anti-ageing and also acne reduction. However, as the skin is a natural barrier, you’ll need to use high-strength CBD creams to have any real effect. We’re not confident that any topical CBD product with a cannabidiol concentration of less than 1% will do much more than waste money.
Here at ULU, we’ve developed a high-concentration CBD skincare range. In fact, we haven’t been able to find another UK company with higher concentration CBD skincare products than us. All of our ingredients are organic, sourced from the EU and are combined with our potent luxury cannabidiol.
For those who enjoy vaping, CBD vape products can combine the fulfilling experience of inhalation with the wellness benefits of hemp extract. CBD vape oils are available in a variety of flavours and concentration levels.
And as vaping allows the CBD to be quickly absorbed into the body, many have reported that it provides an instant feeling of calm and relaxation. However, you’ll need to vape CBD in high-concentrations over a longer timeframe to receive long-term benefits for anxiety, stress, and health.
Be sure to check out our fine range of CBD vape options in the ULU online store. We offer 6 flavours of our high-concentration vape oils.
CBD TABLETS AND CAPSULES
CBD tablets are a convenient method to take your daily dosage of CBD oil. They are clean, as well as being easy to use and transport with you – one of the reasons why they are an extremely popular choice for professionals as well as athletes in Manchester and the surrounding area.
CBD tablets are a great fit if you already take a daily multivitamin. And when taken regularly, they can have all the benefits of CBD including boosted mood, improved immune function, neuroprotection and pain management.
Check out our ULU range of CBD tablet capsules. High-strength CBD in a gel coating for easy swallowing.
What about hemp oil in Manchester?
There’s often confusion when it comes to CBD oil products and hemp oil in Manchester. So, to set the record straight: whilst CBD oil and hemp oil both come from the hemp plant, only CBD products contain cannabidiol. However, hemp oil actually comes from the seeds of the hemp plant, which contain only minute levels of CBD, if any.
Of course, you can buy hemp oil in Manchester. And these products have some cosmetic benefits. However, you won’t receive all of the wider benefits of cannabidiol. So, always make sure to check the labels of anything you buy very carefully.
Industrial hemp in Manchester
Industrial hemp in Manchester must be grown in the UK, and must have a THC content of 0.2% or less. (With the final CBD product containing less than 0.00% THC.) Hemp seeds must also be selected from the European Approved Seed Catalogue.
You’ll also need a license from the Government to grow hemp in Manchester. And to receive this, you’ll need to follow a number of guidelines including:
- Informing Manchester Police that you hold a hemp growing license
- Refraining from growing hemp in Manchester near schools or playgrounds
- Provide an exact field reference number as well as exact measurements of the growing area
- Renew your license every year before the start of the hemp growing season
How to guarantee high-quality CBD products in Manchester
Over the last few years there has been a large increase in the number of retailers of CBD products in Manchester. And while some manufacturers do everything they can to manufacture real, high-quality cannabidiol products, others simply do not. In short, there is a wide variety of standards in overall value and quality on the Manchester CBD market.
So, here are some of our best tips to find a reputable retailer and guarantee a high-quality CBD product .
- Always look at concentration levels. Many retailers use different concentration level indicators (from PPM to mg to %.) But you’ll need a high-concentration CBD product (>5% CBD oils capsules and vapes, and >1% CBD skincare creams) to have any real benefits. Reputable companies will give an overall % of CBD content, or even tell you the CBD content per dose like we do for our high-strength CBD oils.
- Try to find out about the extraction method used to pull cannabidiol from the hemp plant. Methods such as CO2 extraction and ones that use ultrasonic technology produce a higher-quality product than an oil or solvent extraction method. Find out why buying a high-quality CBD product actually matters!
- Only buy from companies who have their products tested by independent labs to verify 0% THC, purity and CBD content. Recently many mainstream UK CBD retailers were found to have illegal levels of THC, and lower levels of CBD than advertised in their products. (You can read our ULU lab reports here)
- Read product reviews – not just on the retailers’ websites, but on third-party review sites
- Try to look for testimonials and case studies to see what real users have to say, but bear in mind that these could be sponsored by the retailer
- Only buy from a UK-based CBD company, as other countries have different CBD laws which could make any imported products illegal here in the UK
Where to buy CBD products in Manchester
If you’re looking to buy CBD products in Manchester, you have plenty of options. However, not all options are equal. You may find that CBD quality varies greatly depending on which option you choose.
So, let’s take a look at the different ways to buy CBD in Manchester.
Buy CBD in-store
Consumers can purchase CBD products in places such as health food shops, chemists, and specialist CBD shops like vape stores. Even mainstream retailers such as Boots and Holland & Barrett now sell a range of CBD products. You can also find CBD drinks and oils in some off-licenses and petrol stations.
However, we don’t recommend buying a CBD product in a Manchester store. Contrary to popular belief, having a CBD product available to buy in a physical location isn’t a marker of quality. Furthermore, you may be pressured by a sales assistant to buy something without doing proper research. And even worse, there may not be a dedicated CBD expert on-hand to answer questions if you’re buying from a more general retailer. And all of this runs the risk that you’ll waste money on a low-quality product that isn’t right for your needs.
Buy CBD online
However, there is another easier and more convenient option: online shopping or e-commerce. As one of the UK’s most trusted and well-established CBD brands, we believe here at ULU that the online shopping experience is superior to in-store shopping.
Why? It allows you the opportunity to do exhaustive research on the products you are buying, with no pressure of time or salespeople. Also, online shopping saves you time, as your purchases are delivered safely to your home or office. With social distancing so important during the Covid-19 outbreak in Manchester, home shopping is the way forward. No hassle, no stress: just convenience and a well-informed choice.

CBD and Tattoos: Why Use CBD Oils Pre and Post Tattoo
Tattooing is ever-popular, with more and more people turning to tattooing as a means of creating an individual statement or style. And tattooing comes from the time of Julius Caesar, so it is certainly not a new trend. However, in recent years it has become more acceptable to be seen having a tattoo in daily life. So, with this in mind, people are increasingly looking at how to deal with the process of gaining a tattoo, as well as the recovery and maintenance of their newly marked skin.
And when it comes to tattoo maintenance and aftercare, there are many options to choose from. So, in this article, we’ll talk about:
- Everything you need to know about CBD and tattoos
- Why we think CBD oils are the best tattoo aftercare products in the UK
- How to use CBD before and after your tattoo session
- CBD tattoo aftercare advice
- We’ll also briefly mention hemp oil and tattoo aftercare.
CBD and Tattoos
More and more UK consumers (including tattoo artists) are starting to realise the link between CBD and tattoos. However, with so many UK retailers making outlandish claims about CBD, it can be difficult to believe everything you read.
And when we say that CBD oil is one of the best tattoo aftercare products in the UK, we want you to be able to trust our advice. So, when it comes to CBD tattoo aftercare here are the main benefits – backed up with several scientific studies. Just follow the links to see our sources!
Anyone who’s had a tattoo can agree on the fact that the process comes with some pain. And if you have your tattoo done on a highly sensitive area such as the ribcage, knees or feet, it’s likely to come with quite a lot of pain.
However, some over-the-counter medications can actually adversely affect your tattoo, For example, Ibuprofen thins the blood, making you more likely to bleed during tattooing. This not only makes it harder for the tattooist to clearly follow the stencil, but also slows down the healing process. So, it’s best to avoid taking these painkillers.
However, it can actually be much more effective to take CBD for pain relief. Did you know that when taken in high doses, CBD can actually change the way your brain and body respond to pain? Cannabidiol essentially reduces your sensitivity to pain, making painful stimuli more manageable, all without causing any unwanted side-effects. Making CBD by far the best natural tattoo aftercare solution.
We’ve already discussed pain above, but did you know that stress also directly affects your perception of pain? Many studies have shown that people experiencing stress are more likely to feel more pain, and that stress also increases your body’s sensitivity to painful stimuli. (And this is much worse for people who suffer from depression and anxiety.) But don’t fear! CBD can change the way your brain responds to stressful stimuli, making stressful situations appear less stressful.
So, when having a tattoo, it’s far better to be relaxed and calm than stressed and nervous. As this will actually help you to better manage the pain – making the tattoo experience more enjoyable, but also helping you to keep still so that the tattoo artist can properly do their job.
CBD vapes are some of the best products to provide relaxation benefits. When you vape CBD, it is quickly and directly absorbed by the body. (Whereas other methods such as capsules and oil drops take longer to enter the bloodstream.) Therefore, many users report feeling a more instant calming sensation when vaping.
So, why not try vaping CBD before your next tattoo session?
After your tattoo session is complete, the tattoo area will become red and swollen. And this is perfectly normal, as this is your body’s natural healing process and immune response kicking in. However, it can sometimes take a while for this swelling to subside, and when it eventually does, this often gives way to itching. (And your friends with tattoos will no doubt have complained about the awful itching post-tattoo!)
So, to help the body and skin to heal, many people are turning to topical CBD skincare creams, oils and serums. This is because CBD is a powerful, natural anti-inflammatory agent. And with inflammation at the heart of scarring and skin damage, being able to treat it means helping the body to heal. CBD oil also contains vital vitamin E, which protects cells, adds moisture and reduces itching.
And unlike NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, CBD works much more gently. Cannabidiol does not thin the blood to the same extent as ibuprofen, and therefore tattooists often advise that CBD products are safe to use pre- and post-tattoo.
Any tattoo artist will tell you that it’s so important to keep the skin moisturised after having a tattoo – both in the short-term and the long-term. In the short-term, keeping your skin moisturised prevents any sticking, rubbing or peeling from damaging the tattoo, whilst also preventing itching. And in the long-term, moisture helps keep colours bold, lines defined and helps prevent tattoo deterioration.
And CBD oils are the best tattoo aftercare products in the UK because of their moisturising properties. CBD is rich in essential fatty acids which protect the skin’s oil barrier and prevent moisture loss. So, using topically-applied CBD oils or creams can help keep your skin moisturised and your tattoo protected. And when combined with the naturally moisturising ingredients in a cream or oil, your skin will benefit from ultimate moisture.
To further assist tattoo recovery and maintenance, we recommend searching for topical CBD products that also contain:
- Natural organic aloe
- Vitamin and mineral loaded jojoba oil
- Vitamin E
- DMAE (Deanol)
- MSM ( Dimethyl Sulphone)
Natural tattoo aftercare
When caring for your tattoo, it’s important to use natural products that don’t contain harsh ingredients. Natural forms of tattoo aftercare and maintenance provide greater moisture benefits, and are far less likely to damage your skin – which can ruin a tattoo!
And we believe that CBD is the best natural tattoo aftercare product. It’s plant-based, so as long as you buy from a reputable company, there shouldn’t be any harsh additives. Cannabidiol also contains vital vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for tattoo aftercare because it helps prevent tattoo fading by providing UV protection.
Many people claim that coconut oil provides the best natural tattoo aftercare. However, coconut oil can actually block your pores, leading to increased risk of infection. Whereas CBD is non-comedogenic (which means it keeps pores free from clogging.)
What about hemp oil and tattoo aftercare?
There’s a bit of confusion when it comes to CBD oil, hemp oil and tattoo aftercare in the UK. Many customers often assume that CBD oil and hemp oil are the same product. However, they are in fact very different. And whilst CBD and tattoos go hand-in-hand, there are far fewer benefits when it comes to hemp oil.
CBD oil comes from the leaves and stalks of the hemp plant. As these parts of hemp are naturally rich in cannabidiol. However, hemp oil (sometimes known as hempseed oil) comes from the seeds of the hemp plant – which do not naturally contain much, if any, CBD.
When it comes to hemp oil and tattoo aftercare, there are still some benefits. Hemp oil is often used to moisturise the skin. However, you won’t receive any of the benefits for pain, healing and intense moisturisation that come from CBD. – All of the reasons why we believe CBD items to be the best tattoo aftercare products in the UK.
Always remember to carefully check the ingredients of the products you buy. If the ingredients don’t specifically state ‘cannabidiol’ or ‘CBD,’ then you can’t be confident you’re buying a CBD product.
CBD Tattoo Aftercare Advice
Now you understand why CBD and tattoos are a match made in heaven, you’ll likely be keen to try CBD oil for your next tattoo session. However, whilst CBD oils are the best tattoo aftercare products in the UK, you can make them even more effective by using certain products at different stages in the healing process.
So, In this section, we’ll give some advice about the entire tattoo aftercare process, including CBD tattoo aftercare guidelines.
You’ll probably be feeling nervous before your tattoo – especially if it’s your first time. And you’ll also probably be thinking about ways to manage the pain during the session. However, it’s extremely important not to take painkillers such as ibuprofen, which can thin your blood and prevent proper healing.
As cannabidiol works best in higher doses over a long-term basis, we recommend starting to take your CBD 2-3 weeks before having your tattoo at a rate of around 2-5mg per day. This will help your body to build up its cannabidiol reserves to provide maximum benefits.
Furthermore, the optimum form of CBD for pain, anxiety and stress is one that can directly enter the bloodstream. So, we recommend using CBD oil, capsules or vapes to assist this.
If you vape CBD, we also recommend vaping directly before your tattoo session for the calming effect that cannabidiol provides.
The day of the tattoo
Your tattoo session (or sessions if your design is elaborate) will leave your skin needing to recover. The healing process for your tattoo can be varied, and depends on a number of factors including the size of tattoo, location and intricacy of the design.
When your tattoo session is complete, your tattooist will cover the tattoo (usually with clingfilm) as well as some kind of anti-bacterial cream or ointment.
You should remove the tattoo covering when the tattoo stops weeping (most likely after a few hours) to allow airflow. Once the covering is off, wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and the flat of your hand. Then pat it dry with a clean towel. (Avoid soaking in a hot bath until 6 weeks post-tattoo.)
You can recover the tattoo at night with clingfilm if you feel the tattoo rubbing in bed.
1-3 days post-tattoo
Over the next few days you are likely to see some discharge and also see that the skin is red and inflamed. You’ll also feel like you have sunburn.
The tattoo should be washed gently with clean water, avoiding soap, to keep the area clean and dry. And again, if you feel the tattoo rubbing on your clothes, you can occasionally recover it with clingfilm. However, bear in mind that exposing your tattoo to the air will help it to recover more quickly.
During this time, you can continue to vape or swallow CBD to promote healing and manage pain.
After 3 days you should now start to add a moisturiser to your recovery routine. (Ensure your moisturiser is alcohol free.)
We believe that CBD oil is one of the best tattoo aftercare products in the UK as it provides natural relief from inflammation, pain, as well as helping your skin to heal and stay moisturised. So, you should liberally apply a CBD oil or CBD oil-based cream to your tattoo from 3 days onwards.
As your skin heals, some scabs will form and you wil need to increase the moisturising of the skin. After around 2 weeks, the skin will start to return to a normal. The outer layers of skin heal first, but underneath, the deeper zones will still require a number of months to fully heal.
Long-term CBD tattoo aftercare
At around the three month mark your tattoo should now be showing in all of its glory, with the pigmentation and colours appearing bright, without further irritation.
At this point, you should still continue to apply your CBD oil or cream to your tattoo. This will help keep the colours defined, and keep the skin moisturised to prevent blurring of lines.
You should also always apply suncream to your tattoo if you’re going out into the sun, as UV damage is one of the leading causes of tattoo fading.

The Complete 2020 Guide to CBD in Cheltenham
Whilst the UK has been quick to adopt CBD, the perhaps more conservative Cheltenham has been far slower in its acceptance of cannabidiol products. And whilst this is starting to change with many more mainstream retailers starting to adopt CBD items, many people in Cheltenham are still largely unfamiliar with the topic!
So, as an online CBD company based in Cheltenham, we’ve created this quick-read guide to CBD in Cheltenham, including:
- Laws and regulations around CBD
- Different CBD products in Cheltenham
- Where to buy high-quality CBD oil in Cheltenham
- How to recognise a high-quality product
- How to find the CBD product that works best for you
A Rough Guide to CBD Oil in Cheltenham
- CBD oil in Cheltenham is becoming more widely available, with more mainstream retailers such as Boots and Holland & Barrett stocking cannabidiol products
- There are some concerns about about the quality of CBD products available in Cheltenham
- Cannabidiol oil in Cheltenham includes both full-spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate options
- With a government licence Cheltenham farmers can grow Industrial Hemp as long as hemp THC content is less than 0.2%.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a chemical compound found naturally in the hemp plant. Users report a wide variety of health benefits including support with stress and anxiety, improved skin health, boosted immune function and pain relief among many others.
And hemp is a type of plant found within the cannabis sativa species. This is where some confusion comes in. Many people think that CBD comes from or contains marijuana. But this isn’t the case! Marijuana is also a plant within the cannabis sativa species, but it is not the same as hemp.
In fact, marijuana contains very low levels of CBD. So, it’s not ideal for creating CBD products. It also contains high levels of THC – the psychoactive chemical compound that causes a high. Whereas hemp contains naturally low levels of THC, which are then removed during the CBD extraction process to be compliant with UK law. So, don’t worry! CBD products won’t get you high and aren’t illegal as long as they adhere to UK regulations and contain less than 0.0% THC.

Is it legal to buy CBD in Cheltenham?
Short answer: Yes!
Long answer: Yes, it is legal to buy CBD in Cheltenham, as long as it adheres to UK regulations. You can buy a CBD as long as the product contains less than 0.00% THC. THC is the compound that can get you high, and potentially leads to failing a drugs test.
However, the guidelines around CBD oil in Cheltenham could soon be changing. CBD oil in Europe has recently been classed as a novel food item, meaning that it could be banned. And whilst it’s unclear whether the UK government will adopt this ruling, it’s important to keep updated. Remember, you’ll still be held liable for buying an illegal product even if it was mis-sold to you.
Different CBD products in Cheltenham
If you have been searching ‘CBD products in Cheltenham’, or even more specifically, ‘CBD oil Cheltenham ’ in the hopes of finding a high-quality cannabidiol product in your city, then you have come to the right place.
So, what exactly are the types of CBD products you can expect to find in Cheltenham?
CBD E-LIQUID AND VAPE OIL
Vaping CBD offers rapid absorption and an instant dosage of cannabidiol. And for people who already vape, it’s the way to blend CBD into your daily life most seamlessly. Due to its quick absorption rate, vaping CBD is most suited to helping symptoms of stress and anxiety, as well as chronic pain.
Here at ULU, we have a range of high-strength 10% CBD vape oils in 6 popular flavours. And all of our vapes are nicotine-free. CBD is non-addictive – so we don’t like to put anything else that could cause addiction into our vape oils and e-liquids.
CBD TABLETS AND CAPSULES
CBD capsules are one of the most common CBD products in Cheltenham. And this is partly because many of us already take a daily supplement or vitamin. So, CBD capsules feel familiar, as well as easily blending into your daily routine. They also come in pre-measured doses for further ease of use.
We offer high-strength 10% CBD capsules to support Cheltonians with their busy and stressful lives.
CBD OIL IN CHELTENHAM
CBD in London has become quite popular over the past 5 years or so. In fact, CBD oil drops are the most common form of CBD across the UK as a whole. Using a dropper or dosing pipette allows a precise dosage of your daily product. You simply place the oil under your tongue and wait 60 seconds for it to become absorbed.
However, as with any CBD product, you’ll need to take CBD regularly, on a long-term basis, in a high concentration to have any real benefits. So, here at ULU, we offer the most potent CBD oils in Cheltenham. We want to give our customers the best value for money. So, you won’t find our high concentrations of CBD oil from many other CBD retailers.
CBD SKINCARE PRODUCTS
CBD skincare products are relatively new to the Cheltenham market. However, CBD is actually a powerful natural anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant. It also helps to reduce production of sebum, meaning that it also has anti-acne benefits.
When you use CBD skincare products, they’re not absorbed into the bloodstream. Therefore, they shouldn’t be your first choice if you’re looking for support with anxiety, stress, immune function, heart or brain health. However, they can help provide an even, clear skin tone, reduce redness or itching, and also reduce signs of ageing.
ULU has an extensive collection of topical CBD products. We use only the finest, natural ingredients, combined with our potent, organic cannabidiol. And we’re proud to offer some of the highest concentrations of CBD skincare products in Cheltenham as well as the wider UK. In fact, we haven’t found any retailers offering higher-concentration skincare products than us.

Where to buy CBD oil products in Cheltenham
You’ll be faced with a lot of choice if you’re looking to buy CBD in Cheltenham. However, not all methods are equal when it comes to finding a high-quality, high-strength product from a retailer you can trust.
Buy CBD in-store
When it comes to buying CBD products including CBD oil in Cheltenham, you can now choose from a number of physical retailers. There are a number of vaping shops, and specialist beauty suppliers stocking cannabidiol products. And mainstream retailers such as Holland & Barrett and Boots have also started stocking CBD. We’ve even seen some CBD drinks in some of the off-licenses on the lower High Street.
Buying in-store is convenient. You’ll be able to hold the product in your hand, and get an accurate feel for product size. However, you should always shop with caution when it comes to buying CBD in a shop. You could find yourself swayed by a pushy sales assistant without having the time to do your own research first. And if you’re buying from a more general retailer, there may not be a dedicated CBD expert on hand to advise you and answer questions.
The quality of CBD products found in-store can vary hugely. A 2019 UK report into CBD products on the market found that many UK CBD retailers’ products contained less CBD than advertised. And many of them actually had illegal levels of CBD – this includes mainstream brands sold in Boots and Holland & Barrett!
Buy CBD Online
However another option when buying CBD in Cheltenham is to buy CBD online. During the Covid-19 crisis and the need to social distance, many people have turned to on-line shopping, and this is true as well for CBD.
Buying online provides more choice when it comes to CBD products. However, this means that you’ll need to do your research to make sure you’re buying a high-quality product.
Here at ULU we exclusively stock online products for these reasons. We’re also a Cheltenham-based business and can supply your CBD products overnight from our Gloucestershire-based CBD warehouse.

How to guarantee a high-quality CBD product
When it comes to buying CBD products and CBD oil in Cheltenham – either in-store or online – we urge you to do some careful research. So, here is some of our best advice about how to find the highest-quality CBD products.
- Many retailers will offer cheaper products, whilst making claims about amazing benefits. But usually when you look at the CBD content of a budget product, there actually isn’t much cannabidiol. Remember, you’ll need to take a high concentration of CBD on a regular, long-term basis to have any real benefits. And if the price of a CBD product seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Often, CBD retailers use different metrics when it comes to the CBD content of each product. Some use mg, some use % and others use PPM. This often makes it difficult to work out exactly how much CBD you’re getting, and even more difficult to compare one product with another. Reputable retailers will be very clear about exact CBD content. We believe that percentage of overall CBD content is the easiest measurement to understand. And if you can find the CBD per dose, (which we always give for our CBD oils) this is even better.
- A reputable seller will have a professional website with advanced security certificates. There will also be a guarantee that products contain less than 0.00% THC.
- Remember to read reviews not only on the retailer website, but also from third-party, independent review sites.
- Only purchase from retailers who have their products tested by independent labs to verify quality, purity and 0% THC content. You can find our ULU lab reports here.

Short answer: yes!
Cannabidiol (CBD) is considered non-addictive and non-psychoactive. It is also not a controlled substance in the UK. Therefore it is legal to buy CBD in London. However, it does still need to adhere to some important guidelines.
To be entirely legal in the UK, CBD products need to contain untraceable levels of THC – so, less than 0.0%. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive chemical compound found in marijuana that causes a high. It’s also illegal in the UK. And despite the fact that hemp contains naturally very low levels of THC, and that hemp grown in the UK must have below 0.2% THC content, some THC will need to be extracted and removed during the production process.
So, always make sure to check the ingredients carefully and only buy from manufacturers that guarantee 0% THC! Remember, you’ll still be held liable for purchasing an illegal product, even if it was mis-sold to you.
Furthermore, the guidelines around CBD oil in London could be changing. CBD oil has recently been classed as a novel food item in Europe, which could mean that it becomes illegal. And even though it’s unclear as to whether the UK will follow these guidelines, it’s still important to keep updated. So, remember to check back regularly on the legal status of CBD oil in London and the UK.

Where to buy cannabidiol products and CBD oil in London
Buying CBD in London has become more accessible than ever before. And whilst this provides London customers with the benefit of lots of choice, it can also be difficult to find a trusted retailer with high-quality products.
Let’s take a look at the different ways to buy CBD in London as well as the benefits and drawbacks of each.
Buy CBD in-store
The first option when buying CBD products and CBD oil in London is to visit one of the many in-store locations. Consumers can purchase CBD products in places such as health food shops, chemists, and other retailers. Even off-licenses and petrol stations often sell CBD oils and drinks.
And whilst this is convenient if you’re already out and about, it comes with some setbacks. For example, you could be pressured into buying a product by a pushy sales assistant without doing your own research. And if you’re buying from a more general retailer, there may not be a dedicated CBD expert to advise you.
Buy CBD online
Because of the setbacks mentioned above, we always recommend buying CBD products online. This allows you to easily compare different products and retailers, and have your chosen product delivered to the comfort of your home or office. – Something that’s especially important during lockdown and social distancing.
However, there are hundreds of online CBD retailers – some with low concentration, low-quality products. So, always make sure to do your research when it comes to buying CBD online.

How to choose the best CBD product for you
CBD products in London, whilst widely available, vary in type, quality and benefits. And based on the health benefits you’re looking to achieve, some products will work and others will not.
Here are some tips on how to find the best CBD product for you:
- Think about your overall goal. If you’re looking for skin benefits, then a CBD cream, balm or serum applied topically would be your best bet. However, if you’re looking for help with anxiety or stress, then skincare creams just won’t cut it – because they won’t be able to enter the bloodstream. In this case, a direct absorption method such as an oil or a vape would work much better.
- CBD needs to be used over a long-term basis to have any real benefits. So, consider which method would blend into your daily routine. After all, the best CBD product for you is often simply the one that you’ll stick to. For example, if you already take a daily supplement, a CBD capsule is the natural choice. If you already vape, then simply switching to or adding a CBD vape could work for you.
